Das Archiv

An archive is an accumulation of historical records or materials – in any medium – or the physical facility in which they are located.

The nature of archives is paradoxical, as they can be both a means to uncover the truth and a tool for concealing it through the use of whiteouts and blackouts. This abstract highlights the use of records and CD-like structures as archival media, which often contain whiteouts and blackouts that reveal an agenda to hide certain information. The image presented in the abstract resembles half of a swastika, which is a dark symbol associated with pain and suffering. However, the presence of blood oozing from the symbol suggests that even blackouts cannot completely prevent the truth from being revealed. The fact that only half of the swastika is shown also indicates that the full extent of the pain and suffering associated with it can never be fully archived or understood.
